I Waited Too Long to Ask for Help | New Nurse Experience

A new nurse realising she waited too long to ask for help.

After what felt like hours...

I watched the vitals continue to drop.

My stomach was queasy
when I saw the blood pressure—

90/40.

I didn’t want to know what the pulse was.

I broke out into a sweat.

Let’s dive in!

It continues to drop

Then I started counting respirations.

24...
my heart began to race.

25...
26...
my heart took off again.

27...
28.

I slowly slid the O2 sat device onto his finger.

The wait was painful...

86%.

I didn’t want to bother any of the other nurses.

They’re busy...
They have their own patients...
I should know this...
I don’t want to look like I can’t handle it...

I needed help long before I let myself ask for it.
