I Asked "Why?" - and Still Didn't Understand

A nurse who does not understand an explaination she was given to a question she asked.

I think we have all been in a situation where something just didn’t “click” when it was explained.

But later on? I clicked the next time you saw it.

Let’s dive in!

When an explanation didn’t “click”

I remember watching a nurse move through her thought process.

She was doing something I didn’t fully understand, so I asked why.

I got an answer—but not from her.

And even after hearing it, it didn’t fully land.

I could follow what was being said, but I couldn’t connect it in a way that made sense in the moment.

I thought about asking again.

But I didn’t.

Not because I didn’t care to understand—but because I wanted to see if I could figure it out myself.

So I kept moving, still trying to piece it together in real time.

Not fully certain. Not fully clear.

Just… working through it.

Something similar came up again

At the time, it didn’t feel like a big moment.

It actually felt pretty ordinary.

But later, something similar came up again.

And this time, I didn’t have to ask.

I recognized it.

Not because I had been told again, but because I had worked through it before.

That’s when it clicked.

An “Aha!” moment for a nurse

Finally it clicks

It wasn’t that I needed more information.

It was that I needed time—and space—to actually think through what I was seeing.

That moment stayed with me.

Not because I got it right the first time.

But because it showed me something I hadn’t fully understood yet:

There’s a difference between hearing an answer… and actually understanding it.

And sometimes, the understanding doesn’t happen in the moment.

Sometimes, it shows up the next time you see it.
